Competing for the first time in a short-course swim meet, Jenny Thompson, 24-year-old Olympian from Dover, N.H., won the 100-meter freestyle at the World Swimming Short Course Championships.

In the process, she beat two formidable swimmers - Germany’s Sandra Voelker and world record-holder Le Jingyi of China, who were second and third, respectively.
