Alleged Gunman Claims Gang Ties

From Staff And Wire Reports

An 18-year-old professed gang member was charged Friday with aggravated assault for allegedly firing a gun at two people.

Christopher C. Gober told Coeur d’Alene police investigators he’s a member of a Tacoma gang. Police are trying to confirm his claims, said Capt. Carl Bergh.

Gober is being held at the Kootenai County Jail on $25,000 bail.

According to a police report, Gober got into a fight with Eli Skalak, 17, and Jareb Mackin, 20, of Coeur d’Alene, on Wednesday.

That evening, Skalak and Mackin were standing on the front porch of Skalak’s house at 10th Place when a car drove by. It matched the one Gober had been in earlier in the day, according to the report.

Although they could not see who was inside, the men saw an arm stick out of the car window with a handgun aimed at them.

The gun fired once and the car sped away, according to the report. No one was injured.

Coeur d’Alene police arrested Gober Thursday night. He was found with a semiautomatic 9mm pistol and 93 rounds of unspent ammunition, Bergh said.

Bergh said he admitted firing the shot.
