Gallery To Display Growth Ideas

From Staff Reports

Spokane Horizons volunteers have been meeting for months, developing ideas for the city’s growth and development.

Some of those ideas will be on display in the Chase Gallery, lower level of City Hall, for a week starting Monday. The display will move to the STA Plaza on Riverside Avenue the following week.

Last fall, groups identified issues facing the city as it grows, including increasing traffic, a shortage of housing choices, not enough parks and a fading downtown.

Next, they suggested possible solutions, such as creating neighborhood villages, pocket parks, bike paths, sidewalk cafes and more trees.

In the next phase, hundreds of ideas will be shaped into three or four alternatives. Finally, one alternative will be chosen to become the city’s new comprehensive plan.

Drawings, charts and photographs illustrate the ideas so far. Visitors are encouraged to comment or add their own thoughts. , DataTimes
