Wheelchair-Stealing Teenagers Hit By Car

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two teenagers who were hit by a car while joyriding on a stolen wheelchair remained hospitalized Saturday, Billings police said.

The boys reportedly stole the wheelchair from Logan International Airport Friday night, Sgt. Tim O’Connell said.

A 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were sitting in the chair while a 15-year-old pushed it down a hill on North 27th Street.

O’Connell said Lewis Grill, 47, did not see the boys and struck them with his Mercedes. The boy who was pushing the chair saw the oncoming car, jumped out of the way and was not injured, O’Connell said.

The 14-year-old and the 16-year-old were hospitalized in satisfactory condition.

The 15-year-old has already been charged with misdemeanor theft and the other two boys face the same charges, O’Connell said.

Police did not release the youths’ names.
