Batt Unveils Grants Totaling $1.5 Million

From Staff And Wire Reports

Four North Idaho communities were awarded grants totaling more than $1.5 million Monday, for projects ranging from water system improvements to senior center repairs.

Idaho Gov. Phil Batt unveiled community development block grants for Plummer, Shoshone County, Mullan and Rathdrum.

Plummer will receive $500,000 to build a 30,000-square-foot wellness center. Shoshone County will get the same amount to upgrade a water district with booster pumps and transmission lines.

Mullan will receive $498,000 to build a 5,080-foot water distribution line, and Rathdrum will get $84,384 for a new roof and interior improvements to its senior center.

Block grant recipients are chosen by the Idaho Economic Advisory Council, a private-sector advisory board. The money comes from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Statewide, 19 cities and counties were awarded $5.9 million in grants this year.
