Celebs Scout Out Favorite Recipes

These days, there are more mothers in law and politics, and sports, and entertainment.

As a Mother’s Day gift, the Girl Scouts Inland Empire Council is offering a cookbook from its sister council in Connecticut called “Recipes for Success.” It features recipes and advice from more than 100 visionary women, including Oprah Winfrey, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Billie Jean King, Helen Gurley Brown and Phyllis Diller (hey, you don’t have to have good taste to make something that tastes good).

The hardcover book costs $18.95. It’s available at the Girl Scouts office, 1402 S. Grand Boulevard; call 747-8091 for information.

Gold ‘n distinguished

“Gold ‘n Delicious,” the cookbook by the Junior League of Spokane, is receiving some national attention. Its Northwest Huckleberry Pie is among five dessert recipes from community cookbooks across the country that are featured in the May issue of McCall’s magazine.

The book is another tasteful gift idea, and proceeds go to local charities. Look for it at bookstores and specialty shops, or call the Junior League at 328-2166.

Speaking of charitable causes, Rosauers supermarkets will donate a portion of their sales Thursday to the American Cancer Society, with “Celebrity Baggers” on hand from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (If you happen to spot Phyllis Diller, let us know.)
