Villwock’s Injured Hand Attached To Hip Area

Associated Press

Hydroplane driver Dave Villwock has had more surgery to improve circulation in his right hand, which was nearly severed in a race accident on the Columbia River.

In a procedure that lasted more than 7-1/2 hours Monday, doctors at Harborview Medical Center attached Villwock’s hand to the hip area, which is rich in blood flow and nerves.

Doctors should know by early next week if the procedure, known as groin flap surgery, is working, Harborview spokesman Larry Zalin said Tuesday.

If it is, Villwock’s hand will remain in that position for the next two months.
