Door-To-Door Fund-Raiser For Shriners Legitimate
What police initially thought was a scam involving people representing themselves as fund-raisers from the Shriners Hospital is legitimate, hospital officials said Friday.
Police released information Monday about a scam in which well-dressed teens collected spare change in the name of the hospital.
The teens were actually from a local church that hospital officials declined to identify. They were authorized by the hospital to conduct a fund drive, although hospital officials did not know it would be a door-to-door effort, said hospital spokeswoman Maggie Crabtree.
The miscommunication about the fund raising is what sparked concern, she said.
Fund raising is complete and the group raised more than $200. It is turning it all over to the hospital, Crabtree said. , DataTimes
