James Miller Cataldo, Idaho

Memorial service for James Arnold “Jim” Miller, 59, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Church of Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Miller, who died Wednesday, was born in Mica Flats, Idaho.

He graduated from Kellogg High School.

Mr. Miller married Dorothy McGillivray in 1956, and in 1957 he bought Miller’s Food City and operated it until it closed in 1977.

He then went to work at the Sunshine Mining Company mill until 1983 when he opened the Third Generation Restaurant. The flood of 1996 forced its closure. He also drove school bus for Kellogg School District from 1956 to 1992.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Virgil Miller of Wallace and Orville Miller Sinton of Texas, a daughter, Brenda Rinaldi of Kellogg; a brother, Joe Miller of Spirit Lake, Idaho; six sisters, Mary Guimond and Frances Arnhold, both of Coeur d’Alene, Kathryn Lake of Priest River, Pat Wuolle of Cataldo, Harriet Lawrence of Council, Idaho and Clara LeCoca of Washington state.

Olive ‘Ollie’ Gillespie Pullman

Visitation for Olive Faye “Ollie” Gillespie, 70, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash. Private graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Colfax Cemetery.

Born in Colfax, Mrs. Gillespie died Thursday.

She was a graduate of Colfax High School and worked as a secretary typist for the Whitman County Extension Service. She later worked for A.M. Michaelsen and Otto Mathiesen as a secretary at the Old National Bank.

In 1947 she became a clerk for the Whitman County Welfare Department. In 1955 she went to work as a legal secretary for Colfax attorney, J.D. McMannis, until accepting a deputy auditor position in 1959 under Auditor Pauline H. Lust.

In 1962 she moved to San Jose, Calif., and graduated from the Bryant and Stratton College of Commerce and the Academy of Stenographic Arts at San Francisco. She became a court reporter for Whitman County in 1968, and also served as court commissioner under Judge John A. Denoo. She later served under Judge Philip H. Faris for 14 years and for Judge Wallis W. Friel for 10 months prior to her retirement in 1988.

Mrs. Gillespie is survived by two sons, Robert and Melvin Gillespie, both of Pullman; three sisters, Virginia Repp of Colfax, Patricia Sturman of Moscow, Idaho, and Elaine Schauble of Spokane; and one granddaughter.

Carl Edland Spokane

Graveside service for Carl L. Edland, 88, was Friday at Riverside Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeSouth is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Edland, who was born in Spokane, died July 24.

He served in the Army during World War II and later worked for the Potlach Sawmill Corporation until his retirement.

He moved to Rockford, after his retirement and returned to Spokane three years ago.

He is survived by a lifelong friend, Wid Parsons of Worley, Idaho.

Angela Padilla Renee Padilla Hayden Lake, Idaho

Private family service will be held for twin infants Angela Faith and Renee Hope Padilla. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The twins died at birth Aug. 6 at Kootenai Medical Center.

They are survived by their parents Ronne and Lari Padilla Jr.; their grandparents, Belva and Craig Sharon, Hayden Lake, Rhonda Van Rossum, Sandpoint, and Ronne and Debe Padilla, San Diego, Calif.; their greatgrandparents, Arabella and Vergil DeHerrera, Taos, N.M., and Bessie Alexander and Frances Reed, both of Sandpoint.

Samuel Wagner Sandpoint

Service for Samuel Phillip Wagner, 85, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel, Sandpoint. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Wagner, who was born in La Crosse, Kan., died Aug. 5.

He graduated from Longmont High School in Colorado and later received a degree in naturopathic medicine.

In 1960 he married Florence Jones and they moved to Sandpoint. His wife died in 1965.

He married Vela Sletager in 1969. She also preceded him in death.

Mr. Wagner was a member of the Church of God, the Gideons and the Naturopathic Society of Idaho.

He is survived by three sons, Russell Wagner of Slidell, La., Ronald Wagner of Boise and Willard Wagner of West Africa; a daughter, Leora West of Salem, Ore.; three brothers, Ed, Harold and Wes; and one sister, Miriam.

Shirley Kees Moscow, Idaho

Funeral Mass for Shirley B. Kees, 66, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Moscow. Burial will follow at Moscow Catholic Cemetery. Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kees, who died of cancer Aug. 5 in Lewiston, was born in Potlatch, Idaho.

She graduated from Potlatch High School and later taught home economics there. She also graduated from and worked for the University of Idaho.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Donald; a daughter, Sandy Racine of Boise; five sons, Kenneth Kees of Lewiston, Gary Kees of Soda Springs, Idaho, Barry and Thomas Kees, both of Moscow, and Steve Kees of Seattle; and seven grandchildren.

Tyler Davis Post Falls

Service for 6-month-old Tyler Jordan Davis will be at 4:30 p.m. today at English Funeral Chapel, Post Falls.

Tyler, who was born in Othello, Wash., died Wednesday.

He is survived by his parents, Brandon King of Bellevue, Neb., and Misty Jo Davis of Post Falls; his grandparents, Glen Davis and Virginia Haskins, both of Chehalis, Wash., and Patricia Davis and Don Foreman, both of Post Falls.

Timothy DeRyan Spokane

Memorial Mass for Timothy B. DeRyan, 35, will be 8 a.m. Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Penttila’s Chapel By the Sea in Long Beach, Wash., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. DeRyan, who was born in San Francisco, drowned Monday in Long Beach, Wash.

He was a graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School, the University of Idaho and the University of San Diego, where he received a master’s of arts degree in practical theology.

Mr. DeRyan taught in San Diego and recently worked as a consultant in Spokane, creating computer web pages. He wrote the book, “The Catholic Internet,” which is being published.

Survivors include his parents, James DeRyan of Placerville, Calif., and Sarah Conrad DeRyan of Spokane; five brothers, Michael, Alex, Patrick, Gregory and Mathew DeRyan; and three sisters, Ramona, Juanita and Rosalie DeRyan.

William Winkler Spokane

Service for William D. “Bill” Winkler, 59, is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at the Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Winkler, a 25-year Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

He was born in Jacksonville, Fla.

He was a postal carrier for 14 years and was a Navy veteran.

Mr. Winkler was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 6, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2218, Eagles Lodge No. 2 and the National Letter Carriers of America No. 442.

Survivors include his wife, Dory; a son, Scott Winkler of the Spokane Valley; two stepdaughters, Janet Mizoguchi of Orlando, Fla., and Jane Brasch of Spokane; and one grandson.

Patricia O’Grady Spokane

Rosary for Patricia M. O’Grady, 47, is set for 7 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Miss O’Grady, who was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, died Thursday.

She was a graduate of Grants Pass High School and the University of Oregon, where she received an education degree with a French minor.

Miss O’Grady taught in Juneau, Alaska, for eight years and then moved to Spokane in 1980 to teach French and Spanish at Gonzaga Prep. She received a master’s of education degree from from Whitworth and Gonzaga University.

She served a year and a half in Mexico at an orphanage and was involved with the International Adoption Agencies. She was also a Campfire leader.

Miss O’Grady is survived by two daughters, Maria and Monica O’Grady at home; her parents, Lawrence and Clara O’Grady of Eugene, Ore.; three brothers, Ray O’Grady of Pendleton, Ore., and Kelly and Gary O’Grady, both of Bend, Ore.; and three sisters, Colleen Jaffe of San Francisco, Sheila May of Philomath, Ore., and Bonnie O’Grady of Salem.

Kathleen (Portch) McPhee Ephrata, Wash.

Memorial vigil for Kathleen G. (Portch) McPhee, 83, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Ephrata. Memorial Mass is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. There will be private inurnment. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. McPhee, who died Tuesday, was born in Almira, Wash.

She was a graduate of Sacred Heart School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse from graduation until the end of World War II. She then volunteered in her community and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack McPhee.

Mrs. McPhee is survived by two sons, Harold Portch of Spokane and Doug McPhee of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Kathy Eckels of Anchorage, Alaska, and Sheila Luddington of Kennewick; a brother, Harold Portch of Spokane; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Medical Center School of Nursing Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Lois Tallada Kalispell, Mont.

Burial for Lois I. Putney-Bloor Tallada, 70, will be at a later date in Bel Fountain, Ore. Garden City Funeral Home in Missoula is is charge of the arrangements.

Born in Victor, Mont., Mrs. Tallada died Aug. 1.

She graduated from high school in Oregon and married Reimon Tallada in 1970.

She moved from Oregon to Ephrata, Wash., in the late 1950s and then moved to Spokane. She also lived in Coulee Dam for several years. In 1975, she moved to Kalispell with her husband.

Mrs. Tallad worked as a cook in Washington, Oregon and Montana.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Don Bloor of Fordland, Mo., Dan Bloor of Everton, Mo., Eddie Bloor of Springfield, Mo., and Bruce Tallada of Patterson, La.; five daughters, Elaine Bloor and Laurie Frakes, both of Willard, Mo., Terrie McCann of Troy, Mont., Mary Nichols of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Sherri Belding of Silverlake, Wash.; a brother, Bill Putney of Spokane; 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

James Brabant Colfax, Wash.

No service will be held for James J. Brabant, 81, at his request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Brabant, who died Thursday, was born in Brimley, Mich.

He served with the 1st Armored Division during World War II and was a logger by trade.

He had been a resident of the Medical Lake and Spokane area for 50 years.

Survivors include a sister, Leona Clor of Michigan.

Gilmore Lokken Spokane

No service will be held for Gilmore O. Lokken, 81, at his request. Private burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Tioga, N.D., Mr. Lokken died Thursday.

He married Frieda Schillinger in 1939 and worked for Kaiser Mead for 26 years as a laborer.

Mr. Lokken is survived by his wife; two daughters, Nancy Lokken of Alaska and Kathy Rivinius of Grand Forks, N.D.; two sons, Ole Lokken of Spokane and Roger Lokken of Tonasket, Wash.; a sister, Olive Reep of Stanley, N.D.; and 11 grandchildren.
