Items Needed For Annual Arts And Crafts Sale

Christmas is coming and the Spokane Art School is soliciting items for Yuletide, its annual sale of fine arts and crafts, Dec. 4-7.

The school is seeking original, high-quality work in mediums such as ceramics, woodworking, painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, jewelry, glass, sculpture, fiber arts, wrought iron and mixed media.

Seasonal items of cards, wreaths, wrapping paper, toys and ornaments will also be accepted.

Submission deadline is Sept. 4. Applicants will be notified of the juried results by Sept. 30.

Prospectuses are available by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Spokane Art School, 920 N. Howard, Spokane, WA 99201, Attention: Yuletide.

Art workshops for kids

Craft classes for children, ages 5 to 11, will be from 10-11:30 a.m., or 1:30-3 p.m., Aug. 21, at the Corbin Art Center, 507 W. Seventh.

Kids can create a number of projects including clothes-pin figures, puppets, masks and stationery.

Admission is $1; no advance registration is required.

Cheney Cowles Museum and the Corbin Art Center are co-sponsoring “Baubles, Bangles and Beads - New Jewelry From Old,” a workshop for students ages 13 to 18 at the museum’s Carriage House, 2316 W. First.

The classes - Aug. 20, 10 a.m.-noon, or 1-3 p.m. - will focus on recycling old jewelry into contemporary pieces.

Admission is $1; advance registration is required, call the museum at 456-3932.

Auditions

The Spokane Area Children’s Chorus will conduct auditions for boys and girls, ages 7-17, at Westminster Congregational Church, 411 S. Washington: Tuesday, 1:30-4:40 p.m.; Wednesday, 4-7 p.m.; and Thursday, 10-noon.

Song preparation is not necessary.

Art awards

Spokane artists Craig Bruenickic and Kay O’Rourke received one of five Booth Awards for Excellence at the Pacific Northwest Arts Fair at the Bellevue Art Museum. Their wood sculpture was titled “Wake Robin.”
