Johnny’s Light Dressings Sweet, Tangy

Rick Bonino Food Editor

With names like Great Caesar, Jamaica Mistake, and Honey, You’re Terrific, Johnny’s salad dressings (from a Tacoma company) have always offered humor.

Now they’re going for health as well, with a new line of light dressings. The Jamaica Mistake Lite we served to The Spokesman-Review’s reader food panel delivered a “zesty zing,” as advertised, but perhaps a bit too much for its own good.

A better bet might be the Honey, You’re Terrific Lite, which also tends to the tart side but tastes more balanced. (And sounds like something that might earn you a slap in the face from a spouse who’s put on a few pounds.)

“This sweet and tangy dressing burns going down my throat. You could put this dressing or vinegar on the salad and not recognize the difference.” - Beth Kowal
