Lsu Football Coach Signs

Compiled From Wire Services

Football coach Gerry DiNardo signed a contract extension Tuesday that will keep him at LSU well into the next century.

The contract still must be approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors, which meets Aug. 22.

The contract gives DiNardo a perpetual five-year contract, with a rollover clause that goes into effect after each season.

DiNardo has guided the Tigers to two bowl victories and a two-year record of 17-6. A felony assault charge against a University of Kentucky football player involved in a shooting of a teammate was downgraded Tuesday to a misdemeanor.

Jason Watts, who had been charged with first-degree assault, now faces a charge of fourth-degree assault. Prosecutors say the shooting was unintentional, but reckless.
