Body Of Drowning Victim Recovered In Snake River

Associated Press

The body of a California man who drowned in the Snake River last week while swimming has been recovered six miles downstream from where he was last seen.

Craig Dykkesten, 41, Clayton, Calif., drowned while swimming near the U.S. Forest Service Campground at Pittsburg Landing, said Idaho County Undersheriff Jon Stroop.

Clayton is 28 miles east of San Francisco.

Stroop said Dykkesten waded into the river on a rocky shoal and intended to swim back through an eddy to the riverbank where his wife waited.

The body was found by a jet boater about six miles downstream along the Oregon side of the river in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area.
