Homes And Gardens Tour In Moscow Area Sunday

Just a reminder that the annual Latah County Historical Society Homes and Gardens Tour and Ice Cream Social is Sunday from 1-4 p.m. in and near Moscow, Idaho.

The ice cream social will be 3-5 p.m. at the McConnell Mansion, which is also on the home tour.

Tickets for the tour are $12, $20 for families, and include the ice cream social. Tickets for the ice cream social only are $2. Tickets are available at the mansion, 110 S. Adams, at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, and a tour map comes with the tickets. Information: (208) 882-1004.

Take time to reflect

Those with time to pause and think about plants as medicine can attend the one-day Sacred Plant Medicine workshop Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tum Tum Retreat Center.

The instructor, Stephen Harrod Buhner, is an herbalist with extensive experience in the field of plant medicine and is a founding member of the Church of Gaia and the Gaian Contemplative Community near Tum Tum on Vision Mountain.

A trip to rural America

The annual Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute (PCEI) series of farm tours in our area has been set for fall and the first is Saturday in the Sandpoint area. Each tour includes a catered meal of local, sustainably grown food, and transportation from farm to farm in an air-conditioned bus.

The cost is $20 for those registering a week in advance, $25 otherwise. Tour sponsors include the University of Idaho Cooperative Extension Service and the Washington State University Center for Sustaining Agriculture and National Resources.

Other tours will be Aug. 21 in the Wenatchee Valley; Sept. 20 in the Pullman, Moscow and Potlatch, Idaho area; Sept. 24 in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area; and Oct. 18 in the Lapwai, Idaho, Lewiston, and Clarkston, Wash. area.

A veritable spruce forest

The National Arbor Day Foundation is offering 10 free Colorado blue spruce trees to anyone joining the foundation during August. Cost of membership is $10 and includes a subscription to the publication, Arbor Day.
