New Puget Link Called Sound Transit
The board overseeing development of a new transit system for the central Puget Sound area has settled on a rather pedestrian name: Sound Transit.
The $3.9 billion ST system will combine light rail, called Link; commuter rail, called Sounder; and express buses, called Regional Express, in the Seattle-Tacoma-Everett corridor.
The Regional Transit Authority board considered more than four dozen names Thursday before settling on ST.
Among the other names considered were Metropolitan Area Network, or MAN; and Metropolitan Express Link, MEL.
