Vandal Qbs Right On Target In Scrimmage

One thing hasn’t changed on the University of Idaho football field.

The offense still looks sharp.

With quarterbacks Brian Brennan and Ed Dean calling signals, the Vandals passed for 435 yards in their scrimmage Saturday afternoon.

Brennan, a senior who missed most of last season recovering from shoulder surgery, completed 10 of 14 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Dean, a freshman who spent the past two seasons on a church mission, completed 13 of 20 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown, but was intercepted twice.

Senior Antonio Wilson had six receptions for 120 yards. Deon Price, also a senior, caught four passes for 40 yards. And sophomore Ryan Prestimonico was impressive with three catches for 82 yards.

“The receiving corps, as a whole, played well,” UI coach Chris Tormey said. “I was pleased with the young group.”

The running game looked solid with senior Joel Thomas carrying nine times for 68 of the Vandals’ 148 rushing yards.

Defensively, Tormey said there needs to be improvement - especially from the backups.

“We were pretty solid,” he said of a defensive effort that produced two interceptions, six sacks and one tackle for loss. “We have to develop some depth up front.”

Tormey said he liked the play of Lewiston freshman Laki Ah Hi, who carried the ball six times for 22 yards and one touchdown. Scott Goss, from Riverside, Calif., also played well at free safety, Tormey said.
