Latest Win Has Seahawks Looking Like Contenders Seattle’s 42-Point Victory Over Colts Came With No Major Injuries

Associated Press

Going on their performance against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday night, the rebuilt Seattle Seahawks look like a team that could be a playoff contender.

Their 42-point blowout of Indianapolis, which was in the AFC title game two years ago and in the playoffs last season, was the most lopsided exhibition victory in Seattle’s 22 years. It also was the worst preseason loss ever for a Colts franchise that began in Baltimore in 1947.

The Seahawks came out of the game with a lot of glowing statistics and without any major injuries.

Tight end Carlester Crumpler has some bruised ribs, running back Dou Innocent has a sore knee and linebacker Michael Barber has back spasms.

Seahawks coach Dennis Erickson hopes to get back running back Chris Warren (bruised ribs) and wide receiver Brian Blades (bruised right knee) for the Cincinnati game.

In Seattle’s two exhibition games at home, the Seahawks have outscored Arizona and Indianapolis 79-9. Against the Colts, John Friesz solidified his job as the No. 1 quarterback over Warren Moon by passing for three touchdowns in the first five series for a 24-0 lead.

And how about No. 3 quarterback Jon Kitna? He was 8 for 8 in the third quarter and has an astronomical 120.5 quarterback rating on 28 for 32 for 272 yards and three touchdowns.
