Auditions Scheduled For A Variety Of Roles

Nina Culver Correspondent

Theater and musical groups from one end of Spokane to the other are conducting auditions as the 1997-98 entertainment season approaches. There seems to be a role for nearly everyone: children, singers, dancers, actors who can play multiple roles - oh, and don’t forget brass band musicians.

Spokane Civic Theatre needs two women and two men for Terrence McNally’s “A Perfect Ganesh,” which opens the Studio Theatre’s season, Oct. 17-Nov. 8.

It’s the story of two middle-aged women on a journey to India and their quest for meaning and understanding.

Director Sara Edlin-Marlowe needs two women, 40-plus years old, with extensive acting experience, and two men - one in his 20s and the other in his 30s - both able to play multiple roles.

An East-Indian dancer is also needed. Dancers are asked to call Marlowe at 536-6294.

Auditions will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 25-27 in the Firth Chew Theatre (in Civic’s lower level), 1020 N. Howard.

Auditioners should read the script and prepare a one-minute contemporary monologue. Tryouts will also include reading from the script and improvisation.

Call 325-1413 for more information.

Washington State University is searching for chorus members for Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Pirates of Penzance.” Auditions will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 27-29, in the Jones Theatre in Daggy Hall on the WSU campus.

Auditioners will be asked to sing a capella.

Performances are scheduled for Sept. 5 and 6.

For more information, call (509) 335-7447.

Spokane’s Children’s Theatre will audition children 12 years and older for its production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” at 3 p.m. Sunday and at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1620 N. Monroe. No preparation is required.

The Spokane British Brass Band will conduct auditions on Friday and Saturday for musicians who play the cornet, flugel, tenor horn, tuba, trombone, baritone, euphonium and percussion.

For an audition appointment, call Mike Warner, director, at 467-6640.
