Flyers Forward Dies Of Leukemia

Associated Press

Yanick Dupre, a left wing who played for the Philadelphia Flyers, died Saturday night of leukemia. He was 24.

Dupre, a native of Montreal, was the Flyers’ second-round draft pick - 50th overall - in the 1991 draft.

He learned he had leukemia in April 1996 and underwent chemotherapy treatments during the spring and summer. His condition deteriorated at the start of this month to the point where he could not even participate in his own golf tournament.

Dupre played parts of three seasons with the Flyers and scored two goals. He played one game in 1991-92, 22 games in 1994-95 and 12 games in 1995-96, the season he scored the goals. He also spent four seasons with Hershey of the American Hockey League.
