Compiled From Wire Services

Iran claimed Monday that American forces were burying nuclear waste in the desert and polluting the Gulf with uranium.

Rear Adm. Ashkpoos Danehkar also complained in the Englishlanguage Iran News that U.S. troops in the Gulf region were scaring wildlife with their weaponry.

A U.S. Navy official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, declined comment on specific allegations.

Danehkar alleged that American forces were burying large amounts of nuclear waste in the deserts of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. He also said that uranium and lead from spent ammunition were released into the Gulf during naval exercises.
