County Wants To Sell Three Parcels Of Land

The county is trying to sell three parcels of land it acquired to accommodate construction of the Argonne Underpass.

An additional parcel - the former site of a Gull service station on the northwest corner of Argonne Road and Trent Avenue - was sold last month to developer Richard Vandervert for $405,000.

Vandervert said he bought the 27,000-square-foot property because it is connected to a site he plans to develop as a shopping center.

The three available properties include a 4,000-square-foot, two-story office building on the northeast corner of Argonne and Trent, for which the county is asking $292,000.

The building formerly housed Becker Management and Associates and Pacific Mortgage Corporation. It includes a small parking lot, but very little land beyond that.

The county is asking about $1 million for a 109,000-square-foot parcel across from Argonne Village near Argonne and Montgomery Avenue. The land runs from Montgomery up to the railroad right-of-way and was used to store construction equipment during the underpass project.

A third piece of land, at the northeast corner of Argonne and Montgomery, is officially off the market for now, as the county negotiates with the owners of Argonne Village over the sale of the property. The county is seeking $296,000 for the 21,000-square-foot parcel.

The county sold the former Gull service station property for $14.50 per square foot. It purchased the land for $12 per square foot, said Chad Hutson, county spokesman.
