Teen Reports Rape In Riverfront Park

From Staff And Wire Reports

A teenager told Spokane police she was raped Tuesday near the Big Red Wagon in Riverfront Park.

The 15-year-old girl said she was walking near the wagon about 11 p.m. when a man jumped out of some nearby bushes.

The victim said the attacker punched her in the stomach so hard she passed out. When she came to, the man was raping her, she said.

She went to a hospital following the attack, and tests showed she’d had sexual intercourse, police said.

She reported the incident to investigators Wednesday.

The victim had been staying in a local homeless shelter in the days prior to the attack, police said.

She planned to sleep at the facility Tuesday night as well, but got there after officials closed the doors.

The victim told detectives she was looking for a place to sleep in the park at the time of the attack.
