Davenport In Hardcourt Final

Fourth-seeded Lindsay Davenport beat Amanda Coetzer, the No. 5 seed, 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals of the U.S. Women’s Hardcourt Championships in Stone Mountain, Ga.

Davenport will meet unseeded Sandrine Testud in the finals today of the $450,000 tournament. Testud advanced with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over French Open champion and No. 3 seed Iva Majoli.

Australian Davis Cup player Patrick Rafter beat second-ranked Michael Chang 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals of the Hamlet Cup in Commack, N.Y.

Rafter will face Sweden’s Thomas Enqvist, a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 winner over Richey Reneberg. Julian Alonso, a 20-year-old Spaniard ranked 72nd in the world, will play countryman Carlos Moya in the other semifinal.
