Guadalupe Rallies To Win Little League Title

Associated Press

Gabriel Alvarez broke up a no-hitter with a game-tying, three-run homer in the sixth inning and Guadalupe, Mexico shocked Mission Viejo, Calif., 5-4 Saturday for the Little League World Series championship.

Later in the sixth, Javier De Isla walked and scored on Pablo Torres’ single and centerfielder Ashton White’s error to complete Guadalupe’s unlikely comeback.

Gavin Fabian, starting his third game in five days, had a no-hitter and a 4-1 lead to start the sixth and walked the first two batters. When he went to a 2-0 count on Alvarez, manager Jim Gattis replaced Fabian with Adam Sorgi. Sorgi threw two strikes before Alvarez’s 250-foot drive to left-center, his first hit in nine series at-bats.

Sorgi then walked two batters and was replaced by Ryan O’Donovan. Torres ripped a single to center that White charged, intent on throwing home to keep De Isla from scoring. But the ball glanced off White’s glove and rolled to the warning track as De Isla cruised home.
