Idaho Climber Survives Fall

Associated Press

An Idaho climber scaling the Grand Teton is extremely lucky to have only suffered cuts and bruises, Grand Teton National Park officials say.

Three pieces of protection hardware popped out while Donald Saver of Ketchum dropped about 45 feet before his climbing rope caught on a rock Thursday.

His brother, Mike, lowered him to a ledge and called for help.

Some guides in the area responded and contacted a rescue group.

The 32-year-old was lowered, picked up by helicopter and then driven to a Jackson hospital.

Jenny Lake Sub-District Ranger Mark Magnuson said if Saver’s rope had not caught on a rock, the outcome could have been fatal.
