Cal Enrolls Most In Peace Corps

Compiled From Wire Services

The University of California at Berkeley has produced more Peace Corps volunteers than any other college or university, the agency’s director said Sunday.

Berkeley ranked first with 2,960 alumni becoming Peace Corps volunteers during the agency’s 36 years, Mark Gearan said, followed by the University of Wisconsin with 2,237 and the University of Washington with 1,990.

Next came Harvard, with 1,966, and Michigan with 1,821. It was at the Michigan campus at Ann Arbor where President John F. Kennedy announced formation of the overseas service corps in 1961.
