The dollar rose against other major currencies in a lackluster session Monday on predictions that Germany’s central bank won’t immediately raise interest rates and worries about Japan’s sluggish economy.
Trading was quiet in the absence of fresh economic news and because financial markets in London were closed for a holiday.
“It has to be one of the quietest days of the year,” said Agostino Floro, assistant vice president of foreign exchange at Bank Austria in New York.
