Anna Zemke Awarded Scholarship From Kootenai Medical Center

Anna Zemke, a Post Falls resident and valedictorian for the Post Falls High School class of 1997, has been selected to receive the $1,000 Kim Svee Memorial Teen Volunteer Scholarship from Kootenai Medical Center.

Zemke, a four-year teen volunteer at KMC, will be attending Seattle Pacific University this fall and served more than 600 volunteer hours as well as serving on the KMC Teen Advisory Board.

In high school, she was active in marching band, National Honor Society, symphonic band and was selected as student of the month from the Kiwanis, Elks and Tom Addis Dodge.

The scholarship is named in honor of a KMC teen volunteer killed in an automobile accident in 1984. Scholarship money is raised by the teen volunteers through fundraising events.

Jaime Johnson, Post Falls Junior Miss and daughter of Steve and LauraLee Johnson, recently traveled to Pocatello, Idaho for a weeklong Idaho Junior Miss Scholarship competition.

Johnson, a senior at Post Falls High School was captain of the cheerleading squad, a member of the honor roll and recently attended Idaho Business Week at Boise State University.

Alana Watkins, a sophomore at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine and 1995 graduate of Sandpoint High School, was named to the Dean’s List for Spring semester.

Watkins, daughter of James and Ruth Watkins of Sandpoint, qualified for the list by maintaining a higher than B average for the semester for a minimum 3.2 quality point ratio.

Jessica Baker, a sophomore at Bates College and 1995 Sandpoint High School graduate, recently traveled and studied in Hawaii as part of a short term unit under the direction of Sharon Locke, assistant professor of geology.

Baker, daughter of Brent and Laura Baker of Athol, Idaho studied geological processes that contribute to volcanism, global change, plate motion and landscape development through intensive field study.
