Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dance’ Tops Sales

The Hollywood Reporter

The Mac is back.

Fleetwood Mac’s reunion album, “The Dance,” two-stepped its way to a No. 1 debut, selling 200,000 copies for the week ending Aug. 24, according to SoundScan.

“The Dance,” which features Fleetwood Mac’s most popular and best-known lineup of Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood and Christine McVie, is composed of 13 Fleetwood Mac classics and four new tunes.

The band’s 1977 “Rumours” album is the No. 3 selling album in U.S. history.

The group will embark on an extensive U.S. tour this fall in support of the release that was recorded as an MTV concert special. It kicks off Sept. 17 in Hartford, Conn., and will end Nov. 30 in Dallas.

Other mature pop artists, while selling strongly at first, haven’t been able to hold chart position.

Paul McCartney’s latest, “Flaming Pie,” debuted at No. 2 this summer on sales of 122,000 copies. The album has fallen below the top 100 since.

In addition, Fleetwood Mac has three releases on the Top Pop Catalog Albums, including the No. 1 album, “Fleetwood Mac’s Greatest Hits,” which sold 15,000 copies in its 134th week.

Also on the chart is “Rumours” at No. 7.

The band’s eponymous release sits at No. 95.
