Long-Distance Carriers Overcharged

Several local telephone companies charged long-distance phone companies too much to complete calls and must refund them about $200 million, the Federal Communications Commission ruled.

In an order released yesterday, the FCC found that charges assessed by US West Communications Group, Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., Bell Atlantic Corp., Sprint Local Telephone Company, and GTE Corp. were “unreasonable.”
