Leading Sheep To Slaughter

Butchers killed 33 sheep at a holy shrine in southern Iraq on Friday in a ceremony marking the first anniversary of a failed attempt to assassinate Odai Hussein, the eldest son of President Saddam Hussein, together above in a 1990 photo. Witnesses held their hands in prayer and shouted slogans in praise of Saddam as butchers slaughtered the sheep, one for every year of Odai’s life, at the revered shrine of Ali in Najaf, about 115 miles south of Baghdad. Odai was critically wounded when dissidents opened fire on his car in the affluent Baghdad suburb of al-Mansour on Dec. 12, 1996.
