City Approves Garry Park Council

The Spokane City Council on Monday gave a nod to the Garry Park area, making it the 11th in the city’s increasingly popular neighborhood council program.

“This is one of the best things to happen to our neighborhood,” said Jim Santorsola.

The Garry Park neighborhood includes everything between the Spokane River on the west and north, Trent Avenue on the south and Fancher Road on the east.

The neighborhood council program is designed to get residents more involved with City Hall. City officials say there eventually may be as many as 45 councils formed.

“I know Garry Park is going to be a real positive addition,” said Rod Minarik of neighborhood services.

In other North Side business Monday, the council:

Approved the final payment to Inland Asphalt of Spokane for paving, curbing and adding sidewalks to Courtland Avenue from Ferral to Freya streets. The $851 payment brings the total contract amount to $48,369.

Approved paying $19,781 to Shamrock Paving Inc. of Spokane, for paving Helena Street from Empire to Garland avenues.

Vacated the alley between Shannon and Indiana avenues, from Post to Wall streets, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
