23 Schoolkids Busted For Herbal Pills

Compiled From Wire Services

Twenty-three elementary schoolchildren were suspended for taking or being caught with over-the-counter herbal pills.

Although the homeopathic pills posed no health threat, school officials said they had to take the incident seriously.

“It’s the intent to take something that would give them a high of some kind and also the willingness to take an unknown substance, in some cases from friends, and in some cases from people they barely even know,” said Jim McDevitt, principal of Gray-New Gloucester Middle School.

The herbal remedies were made from hawthorn berries, ginseng, bee pollen and charcoal.
