Five Officers Injured In Downtown Protest

Associated Press

An evening rush-hour protest on a downtown street by dozens of bicyclists resulted in a melee Friday in which five officers were injured and four people arrested, police said.

Several dozen bicyclists, believed to be members of a group called Critical Mass, blocked auto traffic on Madison Street to protest bicycle conditions downtown.

“At some point, protesters assaulted some officers,” police spokeswoman Carmen Best said.
