WSU’s Sloppy Play Results In Ugly Loss

From Staff And Wire Reports

Arizona used a balanced scoring attack and forced Washington State into a season-high 37 turnovers in downing the Cougars 76-46 in a Pacific-10 Conference basketball game Saturday afternoon at the McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz.

Adia Barnes scored 14 points to lead the Wildcats (16-4, 6-3).

Jennifer Ludwicki came off the bench to score a game-high 15 and Amy Saneholtz added 11 for the Cougars (8-10, 2-7).

After building a 14-point halftime lead, the Wildcats used a 14-0 run early in the second half to build a 57-30 lead with 13:41 to play. Arizona maintained at least a 24-point lead throughout the rest of the game.

“I was extremely disappointed with the overall play of our guards,” Cougars coach Harold Rhodes said. “We just kind of had an out-of-character experience today.” After WSU took a 10-4 lead, the Wildcats took command by scoring 12 unanswered points, followed by a 29-7 run and a 16-point advantage (33-17) with 6:14 left in the first half.
