Bail Reduced For Third I-90 Sniper Suspect But He And Two Other Men Remain In Jail In Connection With Shootings Near Tyler
A third suspect in last year’s Interstate 90 shootings is in custody.
Gregory T. Moody, 19, of Spokane, turned himself in Sunday night and was booked into the Spokane County Jail, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Moody is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment.
At Moody’s first court appearance Monday, District Court Commissioner Virginia Rockwood reduced his bail from $10,000 to $1,000. However, he remained in jail Monday night.
Defense attorney John Clark said the low bail is justified because the teenager wasn’t involved in sniper attacks that frightened motorists in the Spokane Valley from October to December. A number of car windows were shot out, but no one was injured.
Those shootings remain under investigation.
On Thursday, the WSP arrested Christopher R. Williams, 19, of Stevens County, and Evan M. McKeirnan, 20, of Pomeroy, Wash., in connection with two I-90 shootings near Tyler, Wash., about 25 miles southwest of Spokane.
In one series of shootings on Oct. 30, two westbound semitrucks were hit by shotgun fire, and a trailer being towed by an eastbound pickup truck was struck by a round, shattering 12 plate-glass windows it was carrying.
Clark said his client, who has no criminal record, was “in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong guys” when he was with Williams and McKeirnan near Tyler.
Williams and McKeirnan each is charged with four counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of first-degree reckless endangerment.
Williams’ bail has been set at $175,000; McKeirnan’s is $150,000. Both are being held in the county jail.
Moody declined to comment Monday.
