Charles Smith scored 23 points to become the all-time leading scorer in school history and No. 9 New Mexico toasted its highest ranking in 19 years Monday night with a 74-32 win over Brigham Young in Albuquerque.

New Mexico (17-3, 6-2 WAC) missed its first seven shots, but took control with a 15-0 run midway through the first half against the hapless Cougars (1-17, 0-8).

The Lobos connected on four 3-pointers during the scoring burst and Smith scored eight points with a pair of 3s and a turnaround jumper in the lane.

Smith broke the school career scoring mark of 1,769 by current Chicago Bulls center Luc Longley with a 3-pointer from the left baseline with 18:06 to play. Smith has 1,777 career points.

New Mexico earlier in the day leaped into the top 10 for the first time since the 1977-78 season.

Texas 83, (23) Texas Tech 67

Kris Clack scored 13 points in a decisive 19-0 run midway through the second half as the Longhorns (12-7, 6-3 Big 12) stopped the Red Raiders in Austin, Texas.

Reggie Freeman and Clack each scored 23 points for Texas.

Lenny Brown scored 23 and James Posey tied a career high with 20 as the Muskateers (16-3, 7-2 Atlantic 10) beat the Explorers (7-11, 2-6) in Philadelphia.
