Uconn Leads Women

Compiled From Wire Services

Connecticut, the only unbeaten NCAA Division I women’s team, remained the overwhelming choice for No. 1 in AP’s basketball poll.

Old Dominion, Stanford and Louisiana Tech followed Connecticut in a top four that was unchanged from last week.

Montana senior Greta Koss, who averaged 20 points and 10.5 rebounds in consecutive road victories last week, was named the Big Sky Conference women’s player of the week.

The WNBA announced the signing of three prominent international players. Janeth Arcain of Brazil (5-foot-10 guard), Isabelle Fijalkowski of France (6-4 center-forward) and Mikiko Hagiwara of Japan (5-8 guard) will be assigned to teams at a later date.

West Liberty’s Joanna Bernabei became the first NCAA Division II woman to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 assists in a career. Bernabei, who reached 1,000 points earlier this year, picked up the assist in an 87-65 win over Shepherd.
