Wwp Enters Into Transmission Pact

From Staff And Wire Reports

Washington Water Power Co. has signed an agreement with Portland General Electric that will lock in some of the transmission capacity needed to sell power in California.

The pact signed last week provides WWP with 100 megawatts of firm transmission capacity through the end of 1997. The available capacity then doubles to 200 megawatts for the four years that end Dec. 31, 2001.

“This agreement gives us further access to California markets by way of the most economical transmission available,” said Lloyd Meyers, manager of WWP’s marketing and trading business.

Coupled with a recent agreement with one of California’s leading natural gas marketers, the deal with Portland General will enable WWP to sell a broad range of energy services in an increasingly competitive market, he said.

The agreement is the first not tied to existing electricity transactions in the California market. Those customers are served using Bonneville Power Administration lines.
