Jennifer Burton Chosen 1997 ‘Fairest Of The Fair’

Jennifer Burton a senior at Freeman High School, has been named Fairest of the Fair for the 1997 Spokane Interstate Fair. Burton, daughter of Don and Kathy Burton, Rockford, represents McIntosh Grange 1001.

Other royalty selected were Carley Hogenhout and Misty Coller as fair princesses. Hogenhout, a senior at Central Valley High School, is the daughter of Keith and Barbara Hogenhout, Liberty Lake. She represents Central Grange No. 831.

Coller, daughter of Pat and Jane Coller, represents the Five Mile Grange.

Rhiana Whitehead, from McIntosh Grange, was selected as an alternate.

John “Jack” Miller has been named dean of the University of Idaho’s College of Law. Miller, who has been acting dean since 1995, joined UI’s law faculty in 1988.

Lisa Sommers has been accepted into the University of Washington Medical School for the fall of 1997.

Before enrolling, however, she will be in Kathmandu, Nepal, as a volunteer for the Missionaries of Charity.

Sommers, a 1991 graduate of Mead High School, is the daughter of David and Deanna Sommers.

Jerrold Ham’s poem, “Fly Away Home,” has been published in the anthology, Memories of Tomorrow, compiled by The National Library of Poetry.

Army Reserve Pvt. Mathew Ahrens has graduated from the general construction equipment operator course at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Ahrens, son of Carol Ahrens, Veradale, is a 1996 graduate of Central Valley High School.

Army Spec. Paula Guthrie-Callum has graduated from the Army Primary Leadership Development course.

Guthrie-Callum, a medical specialist, is the daughter of Bardella Guthrie. She graduated from Gonzaga Prep in 1992.
