A 2-year-old girl at the trailer was placed into the custody of her mother, who was not involved with the operation, deputies said.

COPS office to open March 1

The newest COPS Shop, located at Ninth and Monroe, is slated to open March 1.

Volunteers are needed to staff the Community Oriented Police Services office, which will keep watch on the neighborhood and provide residents with a location to register bicycles, register to vote and find out what to do about noisy neighbors or barking dogs.

Potential volunteers must submit to a criminal background check and be willing to donate five hours a month, said Shirley Wilson, COPS coordinator.
