Post Falls Socks It To Lake City

Forget about the streak. It’s the hideous socks that are gaining recognition for the Post Falls High boys basketball team.

The Trojans - 4-0 when they’ve worn the knee-high football referees socks, 3-0 in Inland Empire League play - probably could have played barefoot considering how dominating they were Thursday.

Post Falls pounced on the Lake City Timberwolves early and late, as the Trojans streaked to an 81-52 victory before 1,200 at Post Falls’ gym.

“They love ‘em (the socks) so whatever works is fine with me,” said Post Falls coach Scott Moore, whose team recorded its 11th straight victory to raise their overall mark to 15-3, 6-0 in league. “If the socks help we’ll keep wearing them as long as we possibly can.”

More importantly, the Trojans clinched no worse than a tie for the league title. And a victory Tuesday at home against Sandpoint would clinch the crown and award the Trojans the rights to host the A-1 Region I state-qualifying tournament.

LC stumbled to 8-10 and 2-4.

Perhaps LC coach Jim Winger summarized the pummeling best.

“That reminded me of one of my mom’s spankings - quick and harsh,” Winger quipped.

It was expeditious indeed.

Post Falls romped to a 14-3 lead, and all a basket by LC’s Chad Cheeley at the 2:45 mark did was briefly delay the inevitable. The Trojans finished the quarter with a 12-0 run for a 26-5 lead.

After a 3-pointer by LC’s Erik Morris, Post Falls used a 14-5 spurt to close out the first half leading 48-19.

“That’s the team I know and love,” said Moore, alluding to the fact that Post Falls was out of synch Tuesday in a 55-51 win at Coeur d’Alene. “We came out determined and a lot more relaxed (after the CdA game).”

It just wasn’t Post Falls’ offensive effort that was impressive. The Trojans took advantage of 16 LC turnovers in the first half - 10 in the first quarter. Several of the errors came against the Trojans’ fullcourt pressure.

“They played great and I have zilch-o excuses,” Winger said. “Our defense was terrible. We looked like the Camlu All-Stars (a retirement home) out there. We’d make a mistake and our response was to go foul. Everything that we had trouble with - which was everything - was because of (Post Falls).”

Balance has become Post Falls’ middle name. It was apparent in the statistical sheets afterward.

Trojans guard Brason Alexander led the first-half onslaught, scoring 16 of his team-high 17 points. Chad Juhlin came off the bench to score 14, Chad Quesnell had 12 and Travis Bohn added 10.

LC returns to action Monday when it entertains Coeur d’Alene. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but had to be moved to avoid conflicting with the girls regional tourney.
