Three Spokane Youth Boxers Advance To Silver Gloves Semis

Three Spokane youth boxers advanced to the semifinals of the National Silver Gloves Thursday in Lenexa, Kansas. The tournament features 260 competitors in different weight divisions.

Mahlon Kerwick of the Lilac City Boxing Club won a 5-0 decision over Carlos Kancell from Framingham, Mass., at 125 pounds in the 14-15 year-old division. Kerwick was second in the National Junior Olympics last year at 119 pounds.

Dewey Welliver of Spokane Eagles Boxing Club, won a 5-0 decision over Tabokka Chapman from Gulfport, Miss., in the 14-15 division at 132 pounds. Nalo Leal of the Lilac City Boxing Club, drew a bye in the quarterfinals in the 10-11 division at 120 pounds. , DataTimes
