Driver Hurt After Jumping Out Of Car

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Spokane man bailed out of the car he was driving Saturday, sending it careening down Interstate 90 and crashing into the Freya overpass at 60 mph.

The 18-year-old rolled across the pavement and onto the freeway shoulder, suffering a head injury and severe abrasions. The 1986 Honda Accord was destroyed.

No one else was hurt.

The man was listed in serious condition at a local hospital Saturday. The Washington State Patrol is investigating the accident as a possible suicide attempt.

At about 9:17 a.m., the man was driving east in I-90’s center lane and nearing the Freya overpass. He opened the driver-side door and jumped out, according to WSP. The green Accord bounced off the center median twice and crossed three lanes of traffic before crashing into the overpass.

Eastbound traffic was backed up immediately after the accident, but had cleared by 10 a.m.
