Former Rep. James Kuehnle Dies

James Kuehnle Sequim, Wash.

Service for James P. Kuehnle, 73, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Blackwell House in Coeur d’Alene. Drennan-Ford Crematory of Port Angeles, Wash., is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Kuehnle, a former state representative from Spokane, died Friday.

He was born in Dubuque, Iowa, and graduated from Oregon State University.

He worked in the lumber industry in Oregon before moving to Spokane in 1948.

In Spokane he served as president of Leader Lumber and Hardware, and of Holiday Pools Inc.. He also was the owner and developer of Vista Industrial Park, and worked as an independent commercial real estate broker and developer.

Mr. Kuehnle served in the Washington House of Representatives beginning in 1968 and was re-elected for three additional terms.

He moved to Sequim in 1992.

Mr. Kuehnle was a member of the Spokane Valley Elks Lodge, the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce, the Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Hayden Lake Golf and Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Georgia; two daughters, Kristine Carey of Coeur d’Alene and Jeanette Thomas of Hayden Lake, Idaho; and four granddaughters.
