Yankees Sign Williams

Compiled From Wire Services

The New York Yankees and center fielder Bernie Williams agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth a reported $5.25 million, avoiding arbitration.

The Baltimore Orioles made what team sources called a final contract proposal to pitcher Mike Mussina, and people on both sides of the negotiations said they hope to complete a three- or four-year deal worth just under $7 million per season soon after talks resume today.
