Hostage Talks Make Headway In Peru

Government and rebel negotiators said they made headway Friday in a crucial second round of talks to end Peru’s 60-day hostage crisis, and agreed to talk again today.

Both sides still are simply trying to agree on what their talks will address, said Canadian Ambassador Anthony Vincent, a mediator.

Nevertheless, the mediators “consider that the conversations have resulted in real progress,” Vincent said.
