Co-Titlists Set Showdown In Bi-County Tournament

The Bi-County League tournament championship game will be the rubber match between Wilbur-Creston and Ritzville.

Both Bi-Co West Division co-champions won Saturday at Reardan to advance to Thursday’s league title game. The outcome will determine the top two seeds to the District 7-B Tournament.

Ritzville beat W-C by 19 points in mid-December. W-C earned revenge Feb. 8 with a 59-50 win.

Mindy Bandy scored 14 of her 24 points in the first half and the third-ranked Wildcats (18-3) hit 19 of 26 free throws while beating the Falcons (13-8).

Both teams entered with lengthy winning streaks. W-C’s is up to 17 games, while S-H had a seven-game streak snapped.

For S-H, Missy Morton scored eight of her 20 points in the third quarter. Mandi Walters scored 13 in the fourth quarter, nine on 3-pointers.

The Falcons will meet Odessa (8-12) Tuesday in a winner-to-district, loser-out game.

Shannon Russel hit four 3-pointers and scored 13 points in the first half to guide the sixth-ranked Broncos (18-4) over the Indians (13-7).

Reardan held league scoring champion Megan Yerxa (18.2 ppg) to seven, but in the process lost their inside power, Kristen Turner and Katie Supinger, to five fouls. Supinger scored 11 in the second half.

Reardan plays Almira/Coulee-Hartline (5-16) Tuesday in a winner-to-district, loser-out game.

At Endicott, Heather Cox scored 13 second-half points, including nine during the pivotal third quarter, and the second-ranked Nighthawks (18-3) shot 52 percent from the floor to beat the Vikings (9-12) and advance to the title game.

T-O, a winner of nine straight, owned the boards, 40-28. G-P’s Joey Cottrill had 10 rebounds and her basket cut the deficit to six points with 55 seconds left.

The Nighthawks meet St. John-Endicott at 6 tonight, also in Endicott, for the top two berths to the District 9-B tournament. G-P plays LaCrosse-Washtucna at 3 for the third and fourth spots to district.

At Walla Walla, Amber Hellberg’s putback 1 minute into the fourth quarter broke a 38-all tie and began a 10-0 run as the host Irish (17-2) beat the Panthers (11-10) to advance to the title game.

DeSales plays Waitsburg (16-3) this afternoon to decided the first and second berths to the District 9-B Tournament. Asotin moves on as the No. 3 and will open district against Whitman County No. 2, either Tekoa-Oakesdale or St. John-Endicott.
