Nighthawks Pin Loss On Tigercats

Wily Tekoa-Oakesdale used the Fox Saturday to pull the biggest upset of the Class B season.

Trevor Fox scored 15 points in the first quarter and made 6 of 6 free throws in the final 30 seconds to guide the Nighthawks (9-14) over second-ranked LaCrosse-Washtucna 51-45 during the Whitman County League tournament at Endicott.

The Tigercats (18-3) had won 11 straight, including decisions of 47-33 and 55-47 over T-O, the tourney’s fifth seed.

Fox hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter. L-W coach Andy Stinson stuck Troy Nealey on Fox after that, and Nealey held him scoreless in the second and third quarters.

T-O plays Garfield-Palouse at 7:30 tonight in the title game. The outcome will determine the top two berths to the District 9-B tournament. L-W plays St. John-Endicott at 4:30 for the third and fourth district seeds.

At Reardan, the ninth-ranked Warriors (17-3) used balanced scoring and a 9-for-13 touch at the line to overcome the fifth-ranked Broncos (19-3), whose John Galbreath scored 30.

ACH takes on Reardan Thursday night for the title. The game, a rematch of last year’s won by Reardan, will decided the top two seeds to the District 7-B Tournament. Ritzville meets Wilbur-Creston (13-9) at 5:45 Tuesday night in a winner-to-district, loser-out game.
