Ritzville Councilman Accused Of Pulling Gun

A member of the City Council in Ritzville, Wash., is facing a probable assault charge after allegedly pulling a gun on a man at a local tavern last weekend.

Layne Iltz is expected to be charged this week with second-degree assault, Police Chief Dave McCormack said.

Iltz declined to comment when reached at home Tuesday.

Mayor Kirk Danekas said Iltz “won’t be asked to step down from the council until formal charges are filed and we know more about the incident.”

McCormack said police learned of the incident shortly after it happened Saturday night at the Pastime Tavern. When officers arrested the councilman on Main Street, he gave them the gun he pulled in the bar, the chief said.

Iltz was then arrested and booked.

Danekas described Iltz as “very responsible. He’s been a good councilman. He does his homework, and he’s done all of the things that have been asked of him.”
